Ellen Anthony creates art that is fun, energetic and interesting. She likes to paint primarily in acrylic, as the medium suites her expressive style, but also uses oil paints to achieve paintings with more subtle tones. Working in both figurative and abstract formats, the artist enjoys experimenting with texture. Color, though, is her primary means of expression as it gives her the greatest pleasure as a creative tool. "I want the person seeing my art to consider the effect the colors I use have on emotional response. I use a lot of organic forms reflective of the natural world." The artist says she wants her art to bring the viewer into the moment and have them reflect on similar sensations from their own lives. She says for her abstract art is the most imaginative, while figurative expression is more reflective. Anthony's spent much of her career as a journalist, so be sure to read painting titles for insight and humor into her work.
Although her career was elementary education, Marjorie has been a lifelong artist through self taught creations of artwork rendered in graphite/charcoal, pen & ink, and watercolor. After joining ALA in January 2016, she was able a attend watercolor classes and workshops at ALA’s Creative Art Center. Marjorie has also exhibited paintings at various Iberia bank locations through ALA’s Galleries at Large Program.
Marjorie’s approach to painting emphasizes seeing special qualities in everyday objects. She emphasizes the depiction of light and shadow and how they connect and fall across objects as a means to ‘sculpt’ a three dimensional subject from a two dimensional surface. This interplay between light and shadow lends itself well to Marjorie’s realistic style which is supplemented with elements of impressionism. If you would like to contact Marjorie, she can be reached at email@example.com.
